Jake's Cabin Dulcimer

Jim the owner of Jake's Cabin Dulcimers worked with Rick Thum dulcimers for years. Rick sold his business to Jim and is continuing Rick Thum's tradition of making quality dulcimers. Rick is still making the Professional Dulcimer but is now traveling and playing music. These dulcimers have an unadorned expression of exacting workmanship. The joints are finely fitted. The woods are top quality. The grain is fine, straight, parallel, and even. It is the same wood used on the most costly Martin, Gibson and Santa Cruz guitar tops. Its visual beauty lies in its direct simplicity, but Jake's Cabin luthiers has gone to extreme effort to make the low tones of the bass bridge clear, true, and sweet. He has achieved this in large measure. During the course of design of this instrument, Jake's Cabin luthiers experimented with various string combinations. In the end the final design uses steel, brass and wound strings. The wound strings in the low range are made to Jake's Cabin luthiers specification and cannot be purchased at a local music store. Which are the same as Rick Thums. He has experimented with various combinations to determine the proper core diameter and winding weight. Wound strings for Jake's Cabin Dulcimers are unique products of proprietary design. This dramatic attention to detail has produced a quality sound that only Rick Thum has mastered and is now handed down to Jake's cabin dulcimers luthiers. The quality and sound will continue to be the same.
The offset, double sound holes of the Jake's Cabin dulcimer add to the visual appeal of the instrument. The natural finishes allow the beauty of the original wood to speak to the player and viewer.
This is not the end of Rick Thum dulcimers but a beginning for Jake's Cabin Dulcimers. Only the name will change not the Quality.. |
